Shadows (1993) for orchestra was written as a stand alone work that could serve as an inner movement (along with Phantasmagoria) of a large scale four movement symphonic work. Each of the movements of this projected work utilize the same pitch material but for different purposes. The piece can be heard on Navona Records (NV5871, http://www.navonarecords.com/catalog/nv5871/) as part of the compilation CD, Fire and Time, performed by the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, Róbert Stankovský, conductor. The orchestra for Shadows is a full-scale orchestra with a great emphasis on percussion and timbre although the final minutes of this work are written for string orchestra and celesta, a result of the great timbral clashes that mark the majority of the composition.
